Content: A bushfire ADVICE remains for people on North West Coastal Highway and Nanutarra Road, near the intersection of the two roads, in the Shire of Ashburton. • There is no threat to lives or homes but there is a lot of smoke in the area. • Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes. • There is fire burning on the southern side of Nanutarra Road, approximately 30 kilometres east of the intersection with North West Coastal Highway. • A second fire burning on the south eastern side of North West Coastal Highway, approximately 20 kilometres south of the intersection, is now contained and under control. • Smoke may affect Nanutarra Road, as well as the North West Coastal Highway, between Nanutarra Road and the Onslow turn off. BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR: • The bushfire is moving in a north north westerly direction. • It is out of control and unpredictable. WHAT TO DO: • Be extremely careful when driving through the area. • Turn your headlights on and drive slowly. • Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions. • If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears. • If you have a respiratory condition and you have been affected by smoke you should contact your local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222. ROAD CLOSURES: No roads are closed. Avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site. WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING: Firefighters are monitoring the fires. Aerial surveillance of the fire is being conducted today. EXTRA INFORMATION: • The cause of the fires is lightning. • The Shire of Ashburton is managing the fires.
