They both made their entry on the Asian market through an EU funded programme: the EU Gateway programme which aims to help European businesses in their understanding of the Japanese and Korean markets. “Jump To Japan” on air from Saturday 22 March: In the post-Fukushima area, Japan focuses on new and renewable energy and energy saving measures. Plugwise, a leading Dutch company in energy management solutions and lighting and appliances control, seizes this great opportunity. Thanks to the EU Gateway programme, in a short time, the company was able to supply the Japanese market increasing both its export sales and turnover. Now, Plugwise is in direct talks with the biggest Japan utility company. Japan is the EU’s 3rd partner and the 3rd world market (GDP 2012). “Kick-start Korea” on air from Saturday 5 April: The Korean government targets to achieve 11% of New and Renewable Energy (NRE) to be deployed by 2030 and considers NRE technologies as a growth engine. Understanding the need, ZS-Handling responded to the Korean government’s claim. The German company develops a technology for non-contact handling of fragile products, targeting the photovoltaic industry among others. Through the EU support, ZS-Handling has now increased its turnover, its sales and its staff and ensures its local presence thanks to a representative in Korea. Korea is the EU’s 10th largest trade partner and European companies are the largest investors in the 15th world market (GDP 2012).
