But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been - TopicsExpress

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. He has abolished the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, and might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death the hostility through it. So he came and proclaimed peace to those who were near; for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father. Ephesians 2:13-18 Today, the church remembers Dag Hammarskjold. Hammarskjold was a Swedish diplomat and humanitarian who served as Secretary General of the United Nations. Hammarskjold was killed in a plane crash on September 18, 1961, while on his way to negotiate a cease-fire between U.N. and Katanga forces. It was not until after his death that the publications of his personal journal, “Markings”, revealed his deep Christian faith. “Markings” revealed that Hammarskjold’s life involved his strong personal spirituality with his diplomacy. How often do we as law enforcement officers, feel like diplomats. We are called into situations that involve negotiating a peaceful resolution between hostile parties. Many times, we come to the quickest solution to just stop the whole situation. We threaten the individuals to bring them to understanding. How would Dag Hammarskjold handle our profession? We need to implement our spirituality into our diplomacy. We should not look for the easiest solution, but work for a solution that brings us all into one body with Christ. This means a little more involvement on our part. This leads us to look at negotiating situations through the lens of the cross. Today, begin to resolve situations through Christ. God, source of all peace, all thoughts of peace and truth come from you. Kindle in the hearts of all your children the love of peace, and guide with your wisdom all who are in conflict, so that your Kingdom will go forward in peace and the earth will be filled with the knowledge of your love. Help us to be more like your servant Dag Hammarskjold, who brought together his faith and his diplomacy. Amen.
