But of course, you would rather know what THIS weeks lesson (Proper 25) will be! Joel 2:23-32(People of Zion, celebrate in honor of the Lord your God! He is generous and has sent the autumn and spring rains in the proper seasons...I, the Lord your God, will make up for the losses caused by those swarms and swarms of locusts I sent to attack you. My people, you will eat until you are satisfied. Then you will praise me for the wonderful things I have done.Never again will you be put to shame. Israel, you will know that I stand at your side...The Lord said:“Later, I will give my Spirit to everyone.Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will have dreams, and your young men will see visions. In those days I will even give my Spirit to my servants, both men and women...); Psalm 6 (Praise is yours, God in Zion. Now is the moment to keep our vow, for you, God, are listening... Happy are those you invite and then welcome to your courts. Fill us with the plenty of your house, the holiness of your temple. You give victory in answer to our prayer...); 2 Timothy 4:6-8. 16-19,22 (Now the time has come for me to die...I have fought well. I have finished the race, and I have been faithful...The Lord will always keep me from being harmed by evil, and he will bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. Praise him forever and ever! Amen.); Luke 18:9-14 (Jesus told a story to some people who thought they were better than others and who looked down on everyone else: Two men went into the temple to pray. One was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood over by himself and prayed, “God I thank you that I am not greedy, dishonest, and unfaithful in marriage like other people. And I am really glad that I am not like that tax collector over there. I got without eating for two days a week and I give you one tenth of all I earn.” The tax collector stood off at a distance and did not think he was good enough even to look up toward heaven. He was so sorry for what he had done that he pounded his chest and prayed, “God have pity on me! I am such a sinner.” Then Jesus said, “When the two men went home, it was the tax collector and not the Pharisee who was pleasing to God. If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored.” Some people brought their little children for Jesus to bless. But when his disciples saw them doing this, they told the people to stop bothering him. So Jesus called the children over to him and said, “Let the children come to me! Don’t try to stop them. People who are like these children belong to God’s kingdom. You will never get into God’s kingdom unless you enter it like a child!”)
