But whoever has this worlds goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him. [1 John 3:17] There are things we need, and there are things we want. I define need as basic necessity of life that when lacked threatens life and devalues human dignity. If you have a choice of what to eat, what clothe or pair of shoes to wear, and you have enough to keep yourself healthy, technically you are not in need, although you may want certain things that you dont have yet. But there are people who really are in need, and the Bible instructs us to be of help to them. The apostle of love questioned the genuineness of the faith of anyone (with material possessions) who claims to love God but shuts up his heart (closes his eyes) to a brother in need. Invariably, he opined that such a person who fails to lend a helping hand to a brother in need does not love God. He may talk about that love or teach it, he obviously does not have it. Demonstrate Gods love to someone today. Im convinced that there is something or some things you can still part with to radiate Gods love to someone or some people. Do it today. Do it consciously. Do it gladly, joyously and willingly. May God empower your willingness and reward your obedience to do so, in Jesus name.
