Butcher aims to snag top award: TAKE a walk around your local suburb on the weekend and there’s a strong chance you’ll detect the familiar scent of sausages sizzling as summer bears down. It’s almost irresistible but we also know the reality is that the simple fare may not taste as good as it smells cooking on the hot plate, unless of course it’s a Scarfo’s barbecue snag. Myaree butcher Tony Scarfo, from the Meating Place on Leach Highway, will represent WA in Sydney next February at the Australian Meat Industry Council’s national Sausage King competition. Tony came first in the barbecue or traditional sausage category this month and his proud dad Joe couldn’t wait to let everyone in on the news. The popular butcher is already well known for the purple Dockers-inspired snags he created in the lead-up to Fremantle’s appearance in the recent AFL finals. The grand final weekend was one of the butcher’s biggest ever with 1.6 tonnes of purple sausages walking out the door. On a normal summer weekend, he sells about 500kgs of barbecue sausages, which Joe said contained less than 1 per cent fat. dlvr.it/4B1JNY #NEWSANDVIEWSLocalNews (inMyCommunity) #perth #perthnews
