Buying and worshipping idols made from PoP which is quite a popular trend here during Ganesh Chaturthi is clearly an unwanted nuisance to the environment as much as throwing away half burnt human bodies or animal carcasses onto the rivers...such kind of devotional fervor propelled by childhood fetish for playing with beautiful dolls creates a havoc on the environment...adoring the elephant head god by ravaging his own mother is not only of no religious merit but also a great sin similarly is disposing clay idols painted with chemical paint done for giving it a high gloss finish... also it must be noted that the deity can only be invoked in the five natural elements and its byproducts like wood, stone or metal...invocation of a deity made from from plaster of paris is a totally invalid practice and there can be no prana prathista done on such idols as there are strict regulations in what media a deity can be invoked...those who do a simple mental worship (which is considered the most ideal among all forms) will reap greater benefits than people who buy PoP deities and shamelessly dump them onto water beds with pomp and show...its like spilling crude oil into the sea which killed many aquatic life cruelly in a celebratory mood
