Buzz Clipper, who owns the Stinking River Barber Shop, says hes ready to give up gardening. Several fellas were sitting in the shop discussing business recently when Buzz made his announcement. Ill tell you fellas, Im tired of it. I planted my taters, they only half came up, and then them tater bugs got on em and ate up what few plants I had. I spent $18 for a jug of stuff that was suppose to kill em and all it did was stunt em a little. I planted my squash three times and now Ive got about half a stand. Dont even mention my snaps. I planted Blue Lakes and Tennessee Greenpods, and if you look down the row, you can finally see a few coming up here and there. The cutworms got into my tomatoes and half of them are dead. I tell you fellas, Im never gonna fool with a garden again. All the fellas in the shop recognized Buzzs problem. The general consensus among the business discussers was that everybody was having problems with their garden. Some thought it was the cool nights, some blamed it on the hard rains, some thought it was because they planted on the wrong moon. After all the fellas had a few moments to share their hardship garden stories, Buzz said it again, This is my last year, Im never gonna plant a garden again. It was about the time he said it that Hardy Grower, adjunct professor of horticulture and viniculture at the Stinking River School of Theology and Stuff, stopped by for a trim. Buzz, Hardy said, youve been saying that for the last five years, and every spring you stop by my place for fertilizer and seed to start over. Buzz brushed off the clippers and wiped the comb and said to Hardy and all the others, yea, but this time I mean it. Todays assignment from the Stinking River School of Theology and Stuff is sponsored by Stinking River Realty Company, LLC--Youve tried golf course homes, waterfront condos, and town center living, isnt it time you enjoyed the all new Stinking River Valley Cow Pasture Casas?
