By Christie Southern State ed board grants OKC superintendent waiver The State Board of Education approve a request Tuesday from Oklahoma City Public Schools to waive the superintendent certification requirements for an interim candidate for a year while the board permanently fills the position. Oklahoma City Schools Superintendent Karl Springer is set to retire Aug. 30 after five years with the district. He announced his retirement in July. Looking to fill the role of an interim superintendent, the Oklahoma City School Board on Friday approved an application to waive the superintendent certification requirements for an interim candidate for a year while the board fills the position. The action item was brought before the State Board of Education Tuesday and was originally placed on the consent docket for approval. At the request of some board members, the item was taken out for further discussion.
