By GABRIEL ENOGHOLASE BENIN – EDO State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has alleged that the state government under the leadership of Governor Adams Oshiomhole, had concluded plans to sell the “EDO HOUSE,” on Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island Lagos to a Lebanese contractor, who is executing some contracts for the state government. State chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, who addressed newsmen in Benin- City, yesterday, said that the Lebanese, who has no interest in the property was being used by an unnamed official of the state as a proxy to buy the choice property. He said: “Information available to us is that a top government official is using a Lebanese contractor as a proxy to purchase the property. Their intention is to use it as hotel and also engage their Chinese partners to manage the outfit in Lagos. Where is the much talked transparency? We have not seen any advertisement either on the Televisions or print media that they are putting this property for sale.” Reacting, Special Adviser to Governor Oshiomhole on Media, Mr. Kassim Afegbua denied the allegation. He said, “Edo House in Lagos has not been sold but if we discover that selling it will be in the best interest of the state, we will do so. The PDP cannot dictate to our government. When they had the opportunity to govern, they plundered the state blind.”
