By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Sports Editor larry@gaffneyledger For the first time this season, the Gaffney High golf team’s inexperience showed. The Indians, who have a couple of eighth-graders and a seventh grader as their main cogs, finished seventh out of 11 teams at the Spartanburg County tournament on Monday. Playing on its home course, the Boiling Springs Bulldogs, who shot a 283, beat its nearest competitor by a whopping 27 strokes. Dorman was second with a 310. Chapman, Spartanburg and Byrnes all shot 311, while Oakbrook Prep had a 314. The Indians shot a 316. Eighth-grader Zack Gordon shot a 77 to lead the Indians. Cody Transou and Josh Rhyne were next with 79s. Zach Bostic had an 81 and Seth Taylor had an 83 for the Indians. Gaffney’s Jared White, playing as an individual, shot an 80. Gaffney coach Brandon Coggins said the Indians were in contention for second place but struggled mightily down the stretch. “We have to learn how to finish a round off,” Coggins said. The Indians will travel to Woodfin Ridge on Thursday to play Byrnes and Riverside.
