By Shafi’i Mohyaddin Friday, April 04, 2014 The largest Money transfer company in the Horn of Africa, Dahasbhiil Group which also runs other big businesses in Africa and the Arab world has officially joined the Muslim News Awards during a ceremony in London. In a press statement of which HOL obtained a copy, Dahabshiil said they were extremely proud and honoured to be part of the Muslim News Awards for Excellence 2014 which took place on Wednesday night at Grosvenor House in London. The Muslim News is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and the awards are an important celebration of Muslim talent and the contribution of the Muslim community to British Society. The statement noted that in 2013, Dahabshiil was honoured to be the recipient of the Excellence for Enterprise award for its vital role in fostering social development and increasing financial stability in developing countries through remittance finance. According to the statement, Mr Abdirashid Duale, CEO of the Dahabshiil Group, was proud to present the Fazlur Rahman Khan Award for Excellence in Engineering, Science and Technology to Dr Farid Khan for his outstanding contribution to technological innovation in the field of human health in the UK and the Developing World. “I am extremely proud and honoured to be part of the Muslim News Awards for Excellence. The awards are an important way to celebrate success and recognise the contribution of Muslims from all walks of life to British Society” Mr Duale said in his press statement. The statement explained that Dahabshiil has in the past been recognised for the contribution they had made to the communities they serve and for supporting increased financial stability in Somalia. “These principles remain at the heart of our business” Mr. Duale noted. “I was pleased to have the opportunity to raise the issues facing the Somali remittance industry directly with the Prime Minister himself and would like to thank the UK government for their ongoing commitment to find a solution which enables a safe and transparent remittance corridor to remain open with Somalia. This is vital service for the Muslim community in the UK and overseas” he emphasised. Taking advantage from the opportunity Mr. Duale congratulated Mo Farah on winning the Faezeh Hashemi Award for Excellence in Sport. He said he was also very grateful to the double Olympic gold medallist for his continued support to Dahabshiil and the Save Remittance Giving campaign.” Last year, when Barclays Bank said it was closing the accounts of Somali remittance company Dahabshiil, the double gold medallist had played a key role in the campaign that finally resulted in Dahabshiil group granted Barclays reprieve hiiraan/news4/2014/Apr/53874/dahabshiil_group_officially_joins_muslim_news_awards.aspx
