By Shahed ahmed Australian Rugby has welcomed back winger Nick Cummins after he was granted a release from the Coca Cola Red Sparks to rejoin the Western Force for the 2015 Asteron Life Super Rugby season. The move means that Cummins will be eligible to play for the Qantas Wallabies in 2015 and if available could be selected for the Wallabies 2015 Rugby World Campaign in England if form permits. Cummins, who has played 74 matches for the Western Australian club over the past seven seasons, parted ways with Australian Rugby on compassionate grounds in 2014. However, the 27-year-old, who has been capped 15 times for the Wallabies, will return to the Force after being granted leave from his current contract by the Fukuoka-based club. He will join the Force squad at the end of the Red Sparks’ season in early 2015 and will return to the Japanese club for the 2015/2016 Top League season. The player popularly known as the “Honey Badger” to his many fans worldwide will be available to play in front of his home crowd at nib Stadium in Perth on Friday 27 February when the Western Force take on the Hurricanes in round three. Nick Cummins was excited to be returning to Australia for an exciting 2015. “In November I was given an opportunity to play for the Barbarians,” he said. “Walking off the field after the match at Twickenham was a surreal experience, knowing I had just played against my country. It definitely lit a fire within and had me thinking about what could have been. “But I heard a bloke say at the end of the Super Rugby season that he hadn’t heard no fat lady sing! “I’m stoked to be back on the burst and returning to Australian rugby in 2015. “Thanks to the Western Force and more importantly the Coca-Cola Red Sparks in Japan for making my return back to Australia possible. “Gonna be a huge year. Can’t wait to get amongst it!” With Rugby’s global nature continuing to grow the ARU put in place a flexible contracting policy in 2014 that allows players to be selected for the Qantas Wallabies where they are not present for an entire domestic season but they have made a long-term commitment to Australian Rugby. The first round of Asteron Life Super Rugby kicks off in the New Year on Friday 13 of February with the Melbourne Rebels, ACT Brumbies and Queensland Reds competing in fixtures.
