By far the most popular song ever written. Captain John Newton was a commander in the British Navy where he transported men, women and children from Africa to England and America where they were sold into slavery. He did this for years until finally he couldnt do it anymore. He resigned his commission as an officer and went back to his hometown in England and returned to his parish where he would clean and do maintenance work. Then one day these lyrics came to him as he penned the greatest song ever written. Its been in my heart lately. I just plugged in and played it, its not perfect.....but then what is?
