It’s always past tense. Hope is future tense. Hope is looking forward to something, confident that you will receive something, a firm expectation. Strong’s says the Greek word elpis, meaning “hope,” is “a favorable or confident expectation.” But faith is not looking forward to anything; faith is looking back at something. It’s something that you have already received. It’s calling “the things that are not, as though they were”
