By its nature Republicanism is a progressive ideology, common - TopicsExpress

By its nature Republicanism is a progressive ideology, common misconceptions prevail where people see a distinction between Irish Republicans and those who opposed the evils of monarchy and colonization in France and the US in the late 18th century. Irish republicans will never be anti-British, and the ideology will never be bound to any one religion. Were democrats and socialists trying to forge a society which protects and respects all cultures/histories/traditions and marginalized communities, while popularizing political engagement and civic participation, especially among the working class Protestant community in the six county state, who remain among the most disadvantaged in the developed world. We strive every day to move forward, despite the attempts by those who would try to characterise this struggle by the actions of a few. As difficult as it is, we will listen to quasi-fascists, monarchs, ultra-nationalists and religious fundamentalists who see society as necessarily hierarchical, and those with a disgusting sense of entitlement to a now shared island - this is the compromise and reconciliation we hope to engender in a united Ireland, one people united in every sense of the word. Republicanism will only ever be defined by its conceptual hallmarks - liberty, equality and fraternity. belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/politics/richard-haass-blames-unionist-leadership-for-collapse-of-his-talks-30868857.html
