By observing, we change things. So when I saw these guys on their BMX bikes at the top of an incline at the intersection of Elmwood Avenue and Kendrick Road. The railing alongside is very inviting. I asked if they were going to ride that rail. Then I asked if I could video Coose, trying the stunt. His buddy was also capturing the attempt. Putting on my health reporter hat, it would have been nice to see him with a helmet and some pads. But that would have raised the attention of the UR security guard who happened by on another errand. So is it my place to be his buzzkill? Would you have asked someone who appeared older than 18 why he wasnt wearing any safety gear? Or would that make you an old fart who says, When we were kids, we didnt wear helmets when skateboarding or roller skating and look at us now. My point. Anyway, this is a reason for more skate parks and places where kids can do their stunts where they dont face getting busted, and maybe that will encourage them to gear up.
