By the end of the current Administration, we will have lived for nearly a quarter century in a Country in which half of our fellow Citizens have vigorously disagreed with or even disdained or, frankly, hated the President. Eight terms. Clinton-Clinton. Bush-Bush. Obama-Obama. Twenty-four years. Yet we did not fly apart. We did not descend into a new civil war. We did not retreat into enclaves. Instead we argued. Some screeched and others engaged in genteel discourse. We did so as Free People, cloaked in our precious First Amendment. And we had election after election, at regular, predictable - and peaceful - intervals. We always will. This noble Idea...this Shining City Upon a Hill...this America endures.
