By the year 2020, reports the Bureau of Labor Statistics, one quarter of the U.S. workforce will be age 55 or older. And the percent of workers over age 65 is the highest it’s been in more than half a century. Here’s one reason to keep at it: a study conducted at the University of Zurich found that “for every extra year of early retirement, workers lost about two months of life expectancy.” All you have to do is go to a show like Vision Expo West to see that a lot of optical folks have already decided to stay in the game past age 55.
