By way of follow-up to yesterdays post I went last evening to give Wanell her birthday ride. I was feeling good about the whole thing when I arrived on the street to find the numbers didnt quite match what I had on the paper given to me. I recognized the car from the previous evening and remembered that Wanell lived across the street. Sure enough, as I was getting parked someone came out to greet me so at least I was in the right place. One misgiving cured. The next thing that I know, Wanell herself comes out with her walker and is apparently fairly unsteady. I got a bit concerned that maybe this would be too much for her but she appeared enthusiastic so I figured the least I could do was give it a try and see how she faired. Her son lifted her into the chair and I gave her a few ways to signal me that she had had enough since I could not be sure Id hear her over my FMF exhaust. Instructions and pictures over we set off for her adventure. I started to go around a small block but quickly changed my mind and went to do a big block by turning at major intersections. Well, then that got stretched a bit by adding a couple more intersections and then she added a bit more by directing me into a figure eight that added a few more. All in all she seemed pleased by the time I dropped her off. I spent a pleasant UDF with her son who was curious about the rig. I declined an invitation to go in for a bit figuring it was their time and went on my way. Later on I received a message on my phone saying that Wanell had really enjoyed her ride and up until that time had still not stopped talking about it. The best part of this whole thing: making someone happy by just doing something you love to do anyway, a major win/win.
