Facebook is a new and popular word which has come into our vocabulary during the first decade of the 21st century; if someone has not heard about Facebook until reading this, he must have been in a coma for the last 7 years. There are many different opinions about Facebook, one of which is Facebook is nothing but a time waster. However, in my own perspectives, I awfully disagree with that opinion for the reasons below. Firstly, Facebook is a popular social network of all time. On the evidence of the statistics of Epinion, a Danish market research company, by the end of 2013, Facebook was being used by 1.23 billion users worldwide, including 25 million Vietnamese users. If someone dares to claim that all those users are only wasting their time, he has to think twice. Secondly, as a gregarious person, I appreciate that Facebook is one of the best medium for communication. In the past, there is something called “pen pal” where motivated people used to make relationship with other foreign people by writing regularly to each other via post mail. Time has changed, almost every people these days are familiar with Facebook. This gives me chances to connect to different people from anywhere in the world and the opportunities to know more about their culture, values, custom and tradition. In addition, as a college student, I personally feel that Facebook is not only a big help of my university life but also a great assistance of my social life. I have been using Facebook for group study by creating a group for only studying. There I can share any information about my projects, homework, assignments, exams, due date, etc. Moreover, Facebook plays a crucial role in getting valuable information. Any latest news and activities of the Communist Youth Union of my university have been updating frequently. Facebook is a kind way to entertain and maintain the relationship at once. It has thousands of online games, quizzes and applications which allow the users to invite their friends to join together. Even though this is the biggest disadvantage of Facebook since its applications are killers of our precious time because they are very addictive, I firmly stick to my opinion. To sum up, Facebook is much more helpful than something called a waste of time. In a nutshell, it is a full package of communication, education, entertainment and even addiction. Despite its bad side, it is an extra efficient helper of our life. Facebook will not harm a hair of our head as long as it is under our control.
