CA TEAM 3 - FINAL FIRE UPDATE - August 23, 2013 - 9:00 A.M inciweb.org/incident/3679/ Current Situation: The Shirley and Tenant fires were 100% contained at approximately 12:00pm yesterday. The Kern River Ranger District has taken over responsibility for the 6 initial attack fires that were part of the complex and are located in the Golden Trout Wilderness and Domeland Wilderness areas. At 12:00pm today the transition to a type 3 team will be complete, with Tim Bingham taking over as the incident commander. This organization is expected to be in place until Monday August 26. The incident command post is located at the Kernville Forest Service office. Mop up operations will continue on both the Shirley and Tenant fires so traces of interior smoke will continue to be visible for the next few days. Due to more accurate mapping, the final acreage has decreased to 794 acres. Firefighters and the public are urged to drive carefully due to the amount of fire equipment on the steep and winding roads in the vicinity of the fires. Local residents and citizens are reminded to use all equipment and vehicles safely in or near wildland areas and to ensure proper maintenance as these are potentially new ignition sources. One less spark equals one less wildfire. Closures: Hwy 178 remains closed due to rock slides through Kern Canyon. Fire closures include Rancheria Road from the intersection with Pettitt Road for 9.2 miles to the northeast ending at the Shirley Meadows ski area; Alder Creek Road and Campground; Evans Flat Camp; and Oak Flat Lookout. For a complete description and map of the forest closure for the Kern River Ranger District, visit the incident website at the address below.
