CABELL HUNTINGTON HOSPITAL MARKS STROKE MONTH WITH AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AND SCREENING EVENT Friday, May 30th from 9am-1pm In recognition of National Stroke Awareness Month, Cabell Huntington Hospital’s Advanced Primary Stroke Center and Marshall Neuroscience will host a free community event at the Huntington Mall offering information and screenings to help you better understand your risk of having a stroke. Free screenings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 30, in center court of the Huntington Mall. for: •stroke risk, •peripheral vascular disease, •blood pressure •fasting blood tests for glucose and cholesterol will be provided by health professionals Stroke professionals from Cabell Huntington Hospital will be joined at this event by specialists in diabetes, senior health and nutrition. Additionally, informational graphics throughout the mall are posted to promote the importance of recognizing stroke signs and acting fast to seek medical attention. Stroke is a serious emergency that can strike at any time. About seven million Americans 20 years of age or older have had a stroke and 40 Americans experience stroke each day, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A stroke can happen at any age; about one out of four strokes occur in people under the age of 65. “It is important to always be watching for signs and symptoms of stroke and we are proud to participate this month in activities and public campaigns to teach about the life-saving warning signs of stroke,” said Mitzi Beckett, BSN, RN, Stroke Program Coordinator for the Advanced Primary Stroke Center at Cabell Huntington Hospital. “A fast response to someone suffering a stroke is critical and could save a life.” For more information about this event or your stroke risk, please call 304.526.6317 or visit cabellhuntington.org/services/stroke-center.
