**** CABINET APPOINTS PNGSDP INTERIM MD **** The National Executive Council has appointed former Nambawan Super General Manager, Paul Yangen, as the interim Managing Director of the Papua New Guinea Sustainable Development Program Limited. This was announced by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill after Cabinet made this appointment. “Following the recent termination of the PNGSDP Board headed by Sir Mekere, Cabinet set up a Transitional Management Team headed by the Chief Secretary to Government, Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc, to oversee the operations of PNGSDP until a suitable candidate is identified and appointed to the position,” Mr O’Neill said. He said Cabinet had directed the Transitional Management Team to identify a suitable candidate and recommend him or her as the Acting Managing Director of PNGSDP. “Mr Paul Yangen was then nominated and recommended to Cabinet by the Transitional Management Team, given his professional and educational credentials for the job,” Mr O’Neill said. He said Mr Yangen is a certified accountant by profession and was formerly the General Manager (Finance Division) and the acting Managing Director for Nambawan Super Limited. He has extensive banking experience from working as Financial Controller and Manager for the Westpac Bank. “The immediate appointment of the interim Managing Director is vital to restore confidence in the organization and to ensure continuity of the operations of PNGSDP and its subsidiaries. “Mr Yangen’s appointment to this position will ensure this is accomplished until a permanent appointment is made,” Mr O’Neill said. He also said the public is aware of the performance of PNGSDP and the Government’s aim to restructure it to serve the interest of the people of Western Province. “This restructure is fully supported by the Western Provincial Government, its Members of Parliament, landowners and people of the affected areas,” Mr O’Neill said. He also said the appointment of Mr Yangen as the acting Managing Director by the Government would restore the confidence of the PNGSDP workers and the Western Province people.
