CAHERDAVIN CELTIC SOCCER NOTES 27JANUARY Division 1 League: Caherconlish 3: Caherdavin Celtic 5 Our Juniors returned to winning ways with a hard fought 5-3 victory away to Caherconlish. Kevin Ryan made a welcome return to the side giving an outstanding display in the heart of defence. Dylan Cronin netted two; Ralph Judge and Karl Meehan were also on the mark while an o.g. completed our tally. Line up: Mark Linnane, Kevin McGee, Gary Bateman, Pa Sheahan, Kevin Ryan, Steve Martin, Ralph Judge, Glen O’Connor, Stephen Collins, Dylan Cronin, Karl Meehan Reserve: Sean Kelly Schoolboy Soccer: Under 16 Division One League: Janesboro 3: Caherdavin Celtic 2 In this game, played at Pearse Stadium we found ourselves three goals down at the interval having played poorly. The lads improved considerably in the second half but we had given ourselves too much to do. Jamie Stickle volleyed home ten minutes in and Ryain Ahern notched a second when we had what we felt was a legitimate goal ruled out for offside as we lost valuable ground in this league. Our team was: Jack O’Sullivan, Jack Murphy, Kieran O’Connor, Ryain Ahern, Paul Considine, Martin Duggan, Alex Lenihan, Dylan Meehan, Christopher O’Hagan, Tyrone Cronin, Jamie Stickle Reserves: Cian O’Rahilly, Sam Frost, Patrick Kenny (all used) Under 14 Premier League: Geraldines 4: Caherdavin Celtic ‘A’ 1 We were without a number of first choice players for a variety of reasons and succumbed to a 4-1 defeat to Geraldines at Bawnmore. We could muster but nine players in fact, but the nine gave their all playing superbly against the odds. We were a goal in arrears at the interval. The Dines stuck again but Craig Reale gave us hope with a fine headed goal. The home side added two further goals but certainly were given a good run for their money. Our team was: Kevin O’Grady, Shane Harney, Ben Irwin, Craig Reale, Keith Dempsey, Ben Frost, Stephen O’Halloran, Mark Moylan, Ian Leonard Referee was Jimmy Clancy Under 14 Division One League: Caherdavin Celtic ‘B’ 4: Shelbourne 4 This was a most exciting contest and in the end it was honours even at the Greenhills in an eight goal classic. We took the lead, Russell Hoban, heading home from an Alan Gill corner. The visitors hit back and were 2-1 at the break. Alan Gill levelled eight minutes after the restart with substitute, Damien Keogh regaining the lead following a mazy run up the left. He finished with a fine angled drive. Back came Shells but we got our noses in front yet again as Joachim Clohessy’s tantalising through ball created an opportunity for Russell Hoban and the latter netted with the bravest of headers. The visitors weren’t done and came back to tie the scores at four apiece. It was a game we ought to have won but having said that Shelbourne could have won it at the death as they hit the woodwork. Line-up was: Damon Lee, Cillian Hickey, Stuart O’Neill, Rhys Dunne, David Bennett, Alan Gill, Alan Neill, Joachim Clohessy, Killian Ryan, Darragh Dineen, Russell Hoban Reserve used: Damien Keogh Under 12 Premier League: Caherdavin Celtic 5: Shannon Hibs 0 Our Under 12s turned on the style against Shannon Hibs at the Greenhills in Saturday’s early kick-off powering to a fine 5-0 victory. Twelve minutes after the restart Dylan Lynch’s cross from the right was headed home by Ronan O’Dwyer. Substitute Victory Oyedeji announced his presence with a well taken effort following an angled run while the returning Dylan Lynch was rewarded late on volleying home via the upright to compete a great days work.
