CALIFORNIA FIRE UPDATE - Fires exploded in Modoc and Siskiyou Counties yesterday. This impacted the valleys of Southern Oregon with smoke as fires took off. NEW FIRE.......KNF BEAVER FIRE: Siskiyou County, near Horse Creek. Lightning caused. The fire is burning on National Forest land in timber. A national IMT II has command. 400 acres with unknown percent containment. Very active fire behavior seen yesterday with running, torching, and spotting seen. They are still getting resources together for this fire. They will be making initial attack on it today. A full resource mix of hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers, and aircraft being assigned. NEW FIRE.......WHITE FIRE: Siskiyou County, near Sawyers Bar. Lightning caused. US Forest Service has command. 1000 acres, zero percent contained. Fire is burning in timber. This fire is in very rough terrain. Very active behavior with running, torching, and long range spotting. Access is going to be a major problem here so a lot of indirect attack of the fire will be utilized. They have pegged a projected containment date of OCOTBER 1st to this fire. That ought to tell you something. Gaining control of fires in this area is never easy and this will be no different. A full resource mix has been requested and an IMT is being assigned. NEW FIRE.......LOG FIRE: Siskiyou County, near Greenview. Lightning caused. US Forest Service has command. 130 acres, zero percent contained. Fire is burning in timber. This fire is in very rough terrain. Very active behavior with running, torching, and long range spotting. Access is going to be a major problem here too so a lot of indirect attack of the fire will be utilized. They have also pegged a projected containment date of OCOTBER 1st to this fire as well. Again, just really rough Goat Country down there. A full resource mix has been requested and an IMT is being assigned. DAY FIRE: Modoc County near Day. Lightning caused. Cal Fire has command of the fire. 7000 acres, 5 percent contained. The fire is burning in timber and brush. Extreme plume dominated fire behavior yesterday with running and long range spotting. Structures are threatened. Additional resources arrived, but the call is still out for more....MUCH more. Currently a full mix of resources are battling this fire. That includes hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers, helicopters, and air tankers. Total personnel - 683 There are numerous small fires burning all over Modoc and Siskiyou Counties. New fire starts are still emerging. Both Cal Fire and the Forest Service are rushing resources to deal with the established fires, and to bolster initial attack on new fire starts.
