CALL NOW!!! We’ve attempted to stop SB 1730 each step of the legislative process, but it now sits on the Governor’s desk. Please contact him asking that he VETO SB 1730. Gov. Perry is FOR it, so our outcry must be strong and united to persuade him to change his mind. SB 1730 sells off 23 existing Texas roads to private, foreign companies that will convert them to high cost toll roads. Although taxpayers have already paid for these roads, Texas taxpayers will be on the hook for a guaranteed return on investment. Furthermore, this bill is an expansion of transportation policy along the lines of the Trans Texas Corridor model, calling for Public Private Partnerships (P3s) or Comprehensive Development Agreements (CDAs) as funding mechanisms for transportation projects. SB 1029 is still in play as well, so ask him again to VETO SB 1029. Reminder: Due to some “exception language” that was not removed, SB 1029 converts free roads to toll roads plus removes county commissioner hearings and public input.
