CAMPUS ALERT: Weapon Offense on Campus (Knife) – Suspect in Custody – No Current Threat to Campus This is an emergency notification from Big Bend Community College in compliance with the Clery Act Around 1 p.m. today a female subject was discovered on campus scavenging through garbage cans. Security had dealt with the same subject Friday night. The female would not comply with security officer requests for ID and would not answer questions. A sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene and was working to assist the female. A security officer witnessed the female reach into her clothes and produce a knife. Security and the sheriff’s deputy tackled the female, got the knife away from her and the deputy transported the female for a mental health evaluation. Nobody was injured. Since the female was contacted by security on Friday and then returned today, there is a possibility she may return to campus and security will be on the lookout for her. A notice against trespass has been filed against the woman. If you have any information about this crime call Campus Safety at 509-793-2286. (No text messages please). The reason we are telling you this is not to increase fear, but to enhance safety by informing our employees and students. An informed community is a safer community. Under the federal Clery Act, a weapon offense is a crime which requires disclosure to our campus community. It is also requires entry into BBCC’s campus crime statistics. Campus Safety practices community-oriented policing and relies on partnerships with students and employees to create a safer campus.
