CAMPUS STATEMENT For immediate release: Video depicting the assault of a visitor to the Campus ______________________________________________________ It has come to the attention of the Campus Management of the Vaal Triangle Campus of the North-West University (NWU Vaal) that an alleged violent incident took place on Sunday, 7 September 2014.The incident took place during the Wheels at the Vaal Motor Show. We furthermore acknowledge that video footage of this unfortunate event is currently doing the rounds on various social media platforms and eliciting a lot of emotional responses. We have established that the young man who was allegedly assaulted is not a registered student of the Vaal Triangle Campus and therefore – as is the case with the alleged assailant, was on Campus as visitors to the event. The incident was reported to the security staff (appointed by the organisers of the event), and the SAPS was subsequently called to assist in the matter. The incident is now a civil matter between the individuals in question and the SAPS. We trust that justice will prevail. I would like to assure staff and students – as well as members of the Vaal Triangle community that the Vaal Triangle Campus celebrates diversity in all of its richness and we strongly condemn any form of discrimination and racism.
