CASTING CALL: THE BORROWERS (Please read the casting notes carefully before applying, we are especially looking to fill the male roles) Director: Peter Sowerbutts Production dates: 19th December - 3rd January 2015 PLEASE CHECK PERFORMANCE TIMES IN THE BROCHURE OR ONLINE BEFORE APPLYING TO AUDITION Rehearsals will start from Monday 10th November 2014, 5 nights per week, 7pm-10pm. Auditions: Monday11th August, 5pm-9pm Auditions will be 15 minute one to one sessions with the director. There is no need to learn anything in advance of the audition but please be familiar with the play; a reading copy is available at the theatre. The Play: This delightful production was commissioned by Polka Theatre for Children in 1999 and toured country wide thereafter by the Birmingham Stage Company. Arrietty, Pod, Homily and Spiller are Borrowers this does not mean that I am seeking “tiny people” to play the roles. When they appear with the “human beans” they will be played as puppets. Puppetry skills for ALL the cast will be required. However, shorter rather than taller will be welcomed with open arms! Characters (Ages listed are playing age ONLY, applicants MUST 17 years or older) ARRIETTY CLOCK age 13/14 Typical Victorian Heroine. Brave, head-strong and loving POD CLOCK middle aged Father of the Clock family. Kindly patriarch with a sense of right and wrong HOMILY CLOCK middle aged Mother of the Clock family. Slightly fluffy, very feminine BUT with Motherly steel underneath THE BOY age 13/14 Sickly lad brought up in the Raj. Sent home to stay with his Aunt to get stronger. Very inquisitive MRS DRIVER 35-50 Cook/Housekeeper The villain of the piece. Mistrusts everyone especially children and anything small CRAMFURL 50- 70 Gardener. Older man with the heart of a child. Loves to upset Mrs Driver SPILLER age 13/14 An orphan Borrower. Lives on his wits. Huge ability to survive in the “big” world GYPSY BOY age 13/14 A Romany lad, lives with his father.
