**CATCH REPORT** Now for something completely different!! The Human Heron AKA Dave Lidstone has once again proved no fish is safe from his skills. Check out this great report of a days Shark fishing, After a quick check of the weather the cancelled trip was back on with the sea state and building tide offering very favourable conditions for Blue Shark fishing. 08:00am saw us steaming from Plymouth at 23 knots and it wasnt long before we are on the chosen grounds 20+ miles out. After the drift was set up to see how the boat will lay, as we had wind against tide, we filled the chum bags with frozen mackerel chunks to set our trail off . The wind as forecast fell away to nothing within the hour and we set a three rod pattern one at 100ft, 50ft and the rod just by the boat was fished 20ft down after baiting with fresh lure caught Whiting and Mackerel. Hot oppressive weather made the day difficult but promising so we decided that we would steam home at 16:00 as my cousin was on a commercial trip the following day chasing Pollock etc for the market. Five minutes before lifting the baits on a day that promised so much we had a little enquiry on the middle bait. I could feel the shark mouthing the bait and I gave it line and it slowly moved off before spitting the bait. Both Aaron Lidstone and myself KNEW it would be back and sure enough five minutes later of it went. I gave it thirty yards of braid in free spool then hit it. It swam up tide which is always a sign of a better fish and battered me for twenty minutes. I’ve had a shed load of sharks from all over the world but a blue when in the mood on light gear will always give a good account of itself. This ONE was a very fit a shark so we didnt mess about with it we only boated it to remove the hook as it would not T bar out, the photo was secondary as it was so hot I wanted it back and away. Another bigger blue rolled as I played this one but no more runs occurred it just shows you it ain’t over till it’s over . Tackle used was a thirty pound class ABU suveran, AMERICAN AVET lever drag reel loaded with braid, a twenty foot nylon rubbing leader with a wire trace and a 10 hook. The blood by the way is mine teeth on these guys as you would expect are like razors. Cheers Dave
