**CAUTION** These white and black caterpillars are poisonous! They have been showing up more and more recently. Most likely to find a place to overwinter. Be careful when working in gardens and conducting your fall clean ups. These are Hickory Tussock Moth Caterpillars. They are woolly with black and white hairs. They dont sting or bite but their hairs are actually hollow tubes containing venom. Reactions are different for all people but can range from mild irritation to swelling and blistering. Although they prefer hickory trees, they can be found on others such as oaks, ash and maples.
