CBHS Rowing has again had its most successful SISS Champs regatta in over a decade, with our squad of 45 boys bringing home 13 medals in total, consisting of 4 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze. This was by far the most medals won by any Christchurch school and was an improvement over our record results last year by an additional 3 medals, being one of each colour. Gold medals were won by: The under 15 eight crew of Jack Kouloubrakis, Sam Alsop, Hamish Lane, Jackson Ogle, Sam Baker, Luke Rodger, Hunter Stewart, Ben Walls and cox Harry Milligan. The under 18 coxed four crew of Tom Clyma, Jesse Forsyth, Angus Coull, Lucas Tamakehu and cox Edward Eaton The under 15 coxed quad sculls crew of Jack Kouloubrakis, Hamish Lane, Sam Alsop, Luke Rodger and cox Kieran Petherbridge The under 18 coxed novice four crew of Angus Foster, Cameron Butler, Hamish Lane, Luke Rodger and cox Harry Milligan The win in the U18 Four was a thrilling result in this prestigious event with the boys holding a lead over Christ College of half a boat length for the entire second half of the race. This meant back to back wins for our boys in this event. There were many other great performances at the regatta and it was especially pleasing to have all our U18 crews winning medals with a silver in the U18 pair and the senior eight finishing third in a very close race with College and St Bedes. It is very exciting to have a top eight who can now compete with the best in NZ. The boys ended up competing in 19 A finals and 2 B finals in total so it was a weekend of exciting finals action. Head coach Todd Petherick, along with assistant coaches Sam Waghorn, Fabian Dolamore, Lauren Thomas and Liam Smith have done a great job in getting the boys to peak at the business end of the season. This weekend the Maadi Cup squad of 30 boys will be heading back down to Twizel for one last burst of hard training in readiness for the NZ Secondary Schools Nationals which start in Twizel in two weeks time.
