CBP recently updated their electronic I-94 retrieval system to enable travelers to retrieve their travel history in addition to their most recent I-94. This new feature will simplify the verification of entry and exit dates for all international travelers. What follows is a brief overview of the electronic I-94 retrieval system. On April 30, 2013, CBP implemented an automated I-94 system which eliminated the issuance of paper I-94 cards at the port of entry. Intended to streamline the admission process, many travelers still have questions about how to obtain their I-94 record after entry. First, travelers do not need to obtain a paper copy of their I-94, unless they are applying for a change of status or other benefit with USCIS. CBP’s new online system automatically logs a record of each entry and departure, eliminating the need for the traveler to present a paper I-94. However, Challa Law recommends that travelers use the online system to retrieve their I-94, review the information, and compare it to the dated entry stamp in their passport after every entry. This will ensure that any mistakes are discovered and corrected in a timely manner. Common mistakes include passport number and category of entry. To retrieve your most recent I-94, visit https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html. If you have any questions, or if your I-94 needs correction, please contact Challa Law Offices.
