CECIL FIELD JACKSONVILLE, FL I used to live right down the street from Cecil on 103rd St. after I Retired from my Hometown Fire Department. I had a Double Wide Trailer back in 1999, and Cecil had just closed down. But planes were still taking off and landing there. I was working for a Landscaping Company at the time, and we had a Contract with them. Each morning we got on Base to Work, it brought back Memories of when I was Stationed at NAS Millington, TN, & NAS Norfolk, VA. There was an Eerie feeling to Cecil Field at that time due to all of the empty Barracks, Restaurants, Chow Hall, The Club, and the lack of Sailors on the Streets. The silence was almost Deafening, except for the sound of our Lawnmowers, and an occasional Tomcat flying overhead. I could tell that Cecil Field was a very busy place in its Heyday, and the sight of that A-7 made me feel proud that I served in the Navy aboard the USS Dwight D Eisenhower (CVN-69) from 1980 - 1984.
