CELL TOWER PROPOSAL CLEARS HURDLE IN ARIZONA Members of the Cottonwood, Arizona city council have approved a new ordinance that will allow for the construction of up to 90-foot tall cell towers within city limits. The ordinance takes the place of an earlier Cottonwood law limiting cell towers to no more than 60 feet in height. The vote will allow for the construction of a new 90-foot cell tower on property belonging to the Veterans of Foreign Affairs at 705 East Aspen Street in Cottonwood. That project has been subject to debate for the last several months, with many neighbors saying the tower was too tall for the surrounding area. But the Morristown, New Jersey-based Capital Telecom, which builds wireless communications facilities across the country, said the existence of one 90-foot tower equals the power of four 60-foot towers. Capital Telecom, overseeing the construction of the facility on behalf of AT&T, has said that the new tower is needed to fill in the gaps of current cell phone coverage in the area. It is not yet known when construction on the facility will begin.
