CELTIC have failed in an eleventh hour bid for Atletico Madrid - TopicsExpress

CELTIC have failed in an eleventh hour bid for Atletico Madrid left-back Emiliano Insua. Ronny Deila wanted the 25-year-old Argentinian defender on a season-long loan, but it looks as though the former Liverpool player will remain in Spain. Rayo Vallecano have also made an approach for Insua, who cost Atletico £3million when he joined from Portugals Sporting Club in January last year. The Hoops are searching for cover for Emilio Izaguirre, who is the only recognised No.3 at the club. Insuau looked the ideal fit for the Parkhead outfit with the Spanish champions wanting to remove him from their payroll for at least a season. The four-times capped former Boca Juniors star had an initial 18-month loan period at Anfield starting in 2007 which became permanent before a temporary move to Turkish giants Galatasaray three years later. Then he moved to Portugal for two seasons before being snapped up by the Madrid outfit. Deila has made a new left-sided defender a priority with Izaguirre failing to impress since the start of the season. The Hondurans form dipped alarmingly in the World Cup Finals as his country lost their three games to France, Ecuador and Switzerland. Izaguirre admitted to being annoyed at being hauled off at half-time during the 2-1 defeat from the central Americans. Manager Luis Fernado Suarez axed the 28-year-old from the last game, a 3-0 defeat from the Swiss. Izaguirre denied there had been a bust-up with Suarez, who quit at the end of the tournament. But the defender, who was left out of Deilas starting line-up for the 4-1 flop in Warsaw, has struggled since returning from Brazil. Filip Twardzik started last week against Inverness Caley Thistle, but was removed at the interval after a torrid 45 minutes.
