CEOs (WOW) word of the week is Strong. The past 2 days of experiences were interesting and unexpected as he brought over 200 national athletes through a 10 hours camp with the key objectives to allow them to internalize and create their story and legacies. More importantly to build a strong team community. Are you strong as an individual, as a sports team or as a community team (in this case Team Singapore)? STRONG is defined as having the power to move something heavy or perform other demanding tasks. It is also able to perform a specified action well and powerfully. An athlete who is a silo may have the power to perform well in his/her sports but it doesnt mean that he/she is strong enough to inspire and influence the nation to support them. An athlete, especially competing in individual sports needs to understand that being together and involved in a community of athletes of other sports are much stronger than trying to perform well individually in or within the sports. We need to build a sporting culture where we are inter-dependent among the different sports disciplines. Being strong as team Singapore shows the world that that even we may be small, collectively we can come together to build the identity of Sporting Singapore. The ability to move the country to support you is not easy and definitely and surely you cant do it alone. The following video will surprise you and sum up the word of the week. Two quotes for you to think and reflect: The performance outcome of any team will never be based by the strongest and fastest person, it is usually determined by the weakest and slowest person. Hence while you build your own strength and skills in your own discipline, start by helping to build your team members to be as good as you - DL A united team (Singapore) is stronger than an individual, provided you learn to recognize other sports disciplines as a team, not competing on the number of medals won individually but completing together as country. Always be humble because a prideful heart and head will definitely weaken the unity within a team (or country), so help your fellow athletes to grow with you - DL
