CERT/CART/MRC Coordinators & Managers, Once again the Willingboro CERT is hosting a trip to the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia to participate in Wreaths across America (WAA). The Burlington County OEM is helping to support this event. Last year our members joined the massive nationwide effort to lay thousands of holiday wreaths at the headstones of our fallen veterans. Our members worked as a team, continuously displayed a professional attitude and proudly represented the various organizations of the Burlington County CERT/CART/MRC Programs. This years event will be held on December 14th (Saturday); this is a working detail; held in the rain, snow or shine. Its not a hard detail, but our members must be able to walk long distances if they wish to place the wreaths. The WAA never knows exactly how many volunteers will show up each year and the weather can make a big difference in that number. Last year they had about 15,000 volunteers show up and over 150,000 wreaths placed on the graves. It is the WAAs goal to cover the entire cemetery this year, some 224,000 plus graves, but that will depend on how many wreaths are donated. Traffic and parking are extremely difficult so we must leave in the early morning hours (around 4am) so we can arrive early in Virginia. Each way is approximately four (4) hours of traveling; last year we arrived home around 5pm. Our members were tried, but it was a very rewarding experience. Last year sixty-two (62) CERT/CART/MRC members participated and they placed approximately 9,000 wreaths at the headstones of our fallen veterans We must start making the necessary arrangements. Once we have a good & accurate account of members who are willing to participate then we can quickly proceed with the final preparations. We will be using buses for transportation; it appears we will have to once again use school buses. Food and drinks will be available for all members.
