CES 2015 What to expect Sony The Japanese technology company is expected to take the wraps off its next flagship device, the Xperia Z4 at the event. The handset is pegged to be powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor. Other leaked specifications of the device include a 5.5-inch QHD display, 20.7-camera, 4GB of RAM, and 3,420mAh battery. Additionally, the company could also showcase its e-paper smartwatch called FES Watch, as well as a new Sony Walkman. LG isn’t expected to launch its flagship handset at the event, but the company could launch a bunch of mid-range devices. The company however is also expected to unveil the flexible LG G Flex 2 at the event. A recent leak claims that the smartphone will feature a 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor, as well as LTE connectivity. LG is also focused on its smart TV lineup. Ahead of CES, the Korean company announced new additions to its smart TVs. The company added eight different lines UC9, UB9800, UF9500, UF9400, UF8500, UF7700, UF6800 and UF6700. The interesting bit about these TV’s is its Quantum Dot display, which the company claims offers “high color accuracy along” and a 30 percent higher color reproduction. The company announced that it will showcasing these TV sets at the CES. Recently, LG also announced a 34-inch curved UltraWide desktop monitor. The monitor aimed at hardcore gamers flaunts a 21:9 ratio, and also supports AMD’s FreeSync technology, which essentially eliminates screen tearing when the monitor and graphics card get out of sync. LG also has some big news for its Android Wear-powered smartwatches. In September when it launched the G Watch R, the company announced that it has something in store for the CES as well. Intel The chipmaker is expected to launch the fifth-generation Core Broadwell processors at the event. This new processor, which is superseding the Haswell processor, offers as much as 30 percent improved battery life and comes in thinner form factor. Additionally, last year Intel announced that its Core M variety of Broadwell chips doesn’t heat up much, and hence won’t be requiring a fan. This setup will enable laptop manufacturers to make thinner, more power-efficient, and powerful systems. Asus Asus has already hinted that it will be unveiling a bunch of second-generation Zenfone smartphones at the event. These new smartphones will continue to be powered by Intel chipsets, and will boast LTE capabilities. The company recently put out a teaser, which shows that the smartphones will either come with dual-LED flash or a back button at the back. Samsung While a lot of buzz has been around the Galaxy S6, Samsung has never unveiled its flagship devices at a tradeshow. There are however quite a few reports that the South Korean giant is set to release a teaser at the show. The company will instead be focusing on TVs, Ultrabooks and PCs. Samsung announced earlier this week that it will be launching its first Tizen-based smart TV. The company has partnered with several network providers to run their channels on the TV, and it will also have an app letting people check what is on TV. The TV is also said to connect with other Android-powered devices over Bluetooth enabling live TV streaming even when the TV is off. It has already announced the Ativ One 7 Curved all-in-one PC, and as the name suggests it boasts a curved screen. Also announced is the ATIV Book 9 Ultrabook, which too is set to be showcased at CES. Acer Acer has kick started things a bit early by unveiling two gaming monitors — the XB270HU, and the XG270HU. Both the monitors feature 27-inch displays with QHD (2560×1440 pixels) resolution and Nvidia’s G-SYNC technology. The company also unveiled the first 15.6-inch Chromebook. The Chromebook 15 comes with a choice of fifth generation Intel Core i3 or next-generation Intel Celeron processor, as well a choice of full HD (1920×1080 pixels) and HD (1366×768 pixels) displays. The device also comes with fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, a USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 port and HDMI port. Kodak Kodak announced last year that it will be unveiling a series of Android smartphones at CES. The company has partnered with Britain-based Bullitt for manufacturing the handsets. While the camera maker didn’t provide any more details on what to expect from the handset, it did note that the smartphone will boast “best-in-class image management software and features along with great design and UI.” We will also expect best-in-class cameras on these smartphones. HTC HTC has already hinted that it will be unveiling a bunch of mid-range Desire handsets at CES. According to leakster @Upleaks, one of these handsets is a selfie phone, codenamed A52, with 13-megapixel front-facing camera at the event. The prolific leakster also noted that the handset will see wide launch across Asian region, and will come in many color options. Lenovo A lot of eyes will be on Lenovo as it launches its first affordable 4G LTE capable smartphone at the event. BGR India had exclusively reported about the company’s plans, and Lenovo recently sent us an invite for the event on January 8. The invite reveals that the smartphone will be powered by a Snapdragon 410 processor and will soon be launched in India after the event. The handset is expected to be aggressively priced and aimed to contest against the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 1S, which is priced at Rs 5,999. The handset could be similar to the Lenovo K3, which sports a 5-inch 720p display, and is powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. The smartphone also features 16GB internal storage, microSD card slot, 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Also present at the event will be Flipkart’s Michael Adnani, which is an indication that the smartphone will be exclusively available on the ecommerce site when it launches in India. Motorola The Lenovo-owned company doesn’t plan on being left behind and is believed to be unveiling the LTE variant of the Moto G at the event. The smartphone was spotted on Motorola’s Brazil website and in terms of specifications; it is much the same except LTE support and a bigger battery. So in essence, you will get 5-inch 720p display, 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Also included is 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 2,390mAh battery, and it will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. Alcatel OneTouch Alcatel yesterday revealed it will be unveiling a platform-agnostic handset named PIXI 3, which will be compatible with Android, Windows Phone, and Firefox OS. The company also announced that it will be launching the OneTouch Watch at the event in Las Vegas next week. Pebble The year 2014 saw the rise of new smartwatches. While not many Android Wear smartwatches are expected to show up at Las Vegas next week, other watch manufacturers including Pebble could use the platform to release their next-generation smartwatch. Others There will be a bunch of other devices on show at CES including LaCie’s Mirror. This is essentially a fashionable external hard drive with Gorilla Glass protection. The 1TB hard drive is priced at $280 and will be launched later this month. Seagate, on the other hand, has unveiled the world’s slimmest portable hard drive called the Seagate Seven. The ultra-thin 7mm hard drive boasts 500GB storage, and connects via USB 3.0. It will be showcased at the event and will go on sale later this month for $100. The company has also unveiled a wireless hard drive aptly named Seagate Wireless, which will go on sale priced at $130.
