CFCP News: CFCP Artists Survey Results 2013 Getting the low down on what really matters to Artists Between 2012 and 2013 we at CFCP collected data from 279 migrant, emerging and experimental artists through our Artist Survey. The participating artists covered all disciplines and were mostly located in Dublin. Why did we do this? We have been working closely with artists since 2009, promoting their work and giving them a platform to present it. We care about the artists we work with, we value their work and we want to see them succeed in their practice. One thing we have really noticed over the years is that very few artists make a living from their art. This is due to the fact that many of them do not have the skills required to run the business and marketing side of their practice. They learn their craft but not how to turn it into a career. We were interested in hearing what other struggles artists face from the artists themselves. We put together the artist survey to collect this valuable information so that we can tailor our programme to the artists needs. By assessing the needs and wants of the artists we work with we are able to come up with the workshops, information clinics and other supports that comprise our artistic entrepreneurship programme. Colla c ting the data from the artist survey enables us to be a voice for artists and to address their needs with real solutions. Data like this (especially for migrant artists) is scarce in Ireland. What’s next This year we will continue our survey and will be focusing on Migrant Artists only. The new Migrant Artist Survey will be launched this month. Results Here are the results from the Artist Survey (2012-2013) – It contains valuable information on artist’s careers, funding opportunities and the obstacles/challenges that artists face in Ireland every day. About Ian Oliver I am the Communications Director for the Centre for Creative Practices. Prior to joining CFCP I worked in the Irish Writer’s Centre where my principle aim was develop processes and courses that would engage writers to develop their own aims and aspirations and give them the means and support to attain them. My imperative is to work with teams and organisations to enable them to elevate their thinking and strategy and to engage with them to look at the economic and social impact of Arts and Culture on Society.
