TOGO SALMON GRADUATE CONFERENCE: “INTERTEXTUALITY AND INNOVATION IN CLASSICAL LITERATURE AND THOUGHT” MCMASTER UNIVERSITY, HAMILTON, ON FEBRUARY 1ST, 2014 CALL FOR PAPERS The Department of Classics at McMaster University in concert with the E. Togo Salmon Fund and the McMaster School of Graduate Studies invites the submission of abstracts for a graduate conference on the theme of intertextuality and innovation in Classical literature and thought, to be held Saturday the 1st of February, 2014 at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Submitted abstract may cover any period or genre of Greek and/or Latin literature. Paper submissions may incorporate, but need not be limited to, any of the following literary/intellectual disciplines or approaches: Philology, Linguistics, Literary or Textual Criticism, Comparative Literature, Philosophy, Epigraphy, and Intellectual History. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Francis Cairns, Professor of Classical Languages at Florida State University. His areas of research include Hellenistic Poetry, Republican and Augustan Poetry, and Medieval and Renaissance Latin. He has published extensively on the area of intertextuality and is the author of Generic Composition in Greek and Roman Poetry (1972). He is also the joint editor of ARCA and Latin and Greek Texts and has authored over 150 articles on Greek and Latin Literature, Medieval and Renaissance Literature, and Greek Epigraphy. Proposed papers should be approximately 20 minutes in length.
