CFS MEDIA RELEASE: CFS CAUTION ON SUSPECTED SMOKE SIGHTINGS 2/02/2014 CFS crews continue to maintain an active presence at the Bangor fireground despite the fire which burnt about 23,000 hectares of scrub, grass and stubble over 16 consecutive days being declared contained last Thursday. There are currently 140 firefighters in the Southern Flinders Ranges with 20 fire trucks from the CFS, DEWNR and Forestry SA who are continuing to mop-up and prevent any more fires from re-igniting. The CFS is also monitoring the Eden Valley fire which is now controlled and burnt more than 24,000 hectares last week. Another smaller fire in the region at Cambrai today may still be generating smoke and dust. CFS State Coordinator Leigh Miller said predicted wind gusts forecast for later this afternoon could generate a significant amount of dust in these areas that may be mistaken for smoke. We still ask people to be vigilant while the hot weather continues to permeate across the state ahead of milder conditions expected later this evening when temperatures will fall, Mr Miller said. Anyone who sights flames should report the location by dialling Triple Zero immediately. The CFS is also advising people to tune in to local radio, monitor bushfire incidents on the CFS website or to contact the Bushfire Information Hotline on 1300 362 361.
