CGT Calusa Paddle Race #4: Race Results Saturday was race #4 in our series and we were thrilled with the turn out. We had a lot of fun and are really excited about the rest of the series. We would like to thank everyone for their help and support starting this event. From the beginning, our goal was to create a race that was fun for everyone, from hardcore competitors to interested beginners. We felt it should be family-oriented and low-key, but with a course and conditions challenging enough to keep things interesting. In short, an environment that could nurture and grow the sport of paddling. That was the race I saw this Saturday. These races are the result of your suggestions, patience, and enthusiasm. This series was the first time we have ever organized a race, and your guidance and approval were essential to its success. Thank you to HippoStick, Survey Cafe, Tarpon Lodge, Big Hickory Marina & Grill, Coastal Graphics & Ts, Special Olympics of Collier County, The Bonita Springs Historical Society, all of the racers, and everyone who helped spread the word. After each race we always discuss how we could have made it better, and there are a few things I would like to do for the next race: 1. Make registration easier- If you have already filled out a registration form for another race in the series, you will only need to sign-in on race day (unless you are using new equipment, then a new registration form is necessary). 2. Give you more control over the start order - Ive noticed that a number of racers enjoy strategically placing themselves in the start order. Im toying with a few ways of letting you choose-- either online or at the event--maybe based on times? Let me know what you think. 3. More Photos - Now that weve got the structure of the race down, Id like to dedicate some resources to photographing the race. In particular, Id like to get a shot of each racer at the turn around buoy and finish line. Below are some of my favorite pictures from the race. Most of the images are from the Special Olympics of Collier County, who got some awesome action shots. Many of the other images are from our volunteer, Laurie, who has been invaluable to the series.
