CHAN 2014: Mark asks Eagles handlers to correct lapses Senate President David Mark on Sunday commended the Super Eagles for their “superlative performance at the African Nations Cup Championships 2014 competition in South Africa.” The Nigerian representatives on Saturday beat their Zimbabwean counterparts by a lone goal to win bronze. Mark, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Paul Mumeh, said, “Although Nigeria did not win the prized trophy, the good outing of the Super Eagles cannot be wished away.” He said, “All that the Stephen Keshi-led coaching crew needs to do is to work on the identified shortcomings and improve on them before the next competition. “Our boys did well, they improved significantly from every game. There were a few mistakes but we had a good outing . “Our opponents also recognised and appreciated that Nigeria is solid and cannot be pushed aside in the game of soccer.” He therefore urged the Aminu Maigari-led Nigeria Football Federation to put necessary measures in place to ensure that the players were well motivated and adequately trained before the forthcoming engagement. Mark assured football loving Nigerians that the National Assembly was conscious of the overall sports development in Nigeria. He pledged that the federal legislature would ensure that deliberate efforts were made to give sports appropriate allocation in the 2014 budget. He added that sports had proven to be the needed ingredient to oil the wheel of our national unity and peaceful coexistence. “We must not compromise on this”. He added. February 02, 2014 at 05:09PM
