CHANDIGARH: Haryana government on Wednesday announced a steep hike in award money to recipients of gallantry and other award winning members of armed forces from the state. Recipients of the countrys highest gallantry award, Param Vir Chakra (PVC) would now get financial assistance of Rs 2 crore instead of Rs 31 lakh given earlier. Similarly, recipients of the second highest gallantry award, Maha Vir Chakra, would get Rs 1 crore instead of Rs 21 lakh, recipients of Vir Chakra (VC) would get Rs 50 lakh instead of Rs 15 lakh, recipients of Sena Medal, Nausena medal, Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) would now get Rs 21 lakh instead of Rs 7.50 lakh and recipients of Mention-in-Dispatches would get Rs 10 lakh instead of Rs 5.5 lakh given earlier. The state government has also increased ex-gratia payment to ex-servicemen and personnel of paramilitary forces and Haryana Police in case of death while performing duty. The amount in case of death during war or terrorism has been increased from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 20 lakh each. In case of death due to IED blast and rescue operation, the amount has been increased from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. In case of 75% or above disability, they would get Rs 15 lakh and in case of disability between 50% and 74%, it would be Rs 10 lakh. For disability between 25% and 49%, they would get Rs 5 lakh. The state has also announced a considerable increase in the amount for highest gallantry award (peacetime) Ashok Chakra. Recipients of Ashok Chakra would now get Rs 1 crore instead of Rs 31 lakh given earlier. Similarly, recipients of Kirti Chakra would get Rs 51 lakh instead of Rs 21 lakh, recipients of Shaurya Chakra would get Rs 31 lakh instead of Rs 15 lakh, recipients of Sena Medal, Nausena Medal and Vayu Sena Medal (bravery) would get Rs 10 lakh each instead of Rs 7.50 lakh and recipients of Mention-in-Dispatches would get Rs 7.50 lakh instead of Rs 5.50 lakh given earlier.
