CHANT A PSALM A DAY FOR THE YOUNG MAN FROM BOLE Friends, I love reggae music, and I believe most of you do too. Today being Christmas Eve, I want you to put on your dancing shoes and lets dance to the tune of Chant a psalm a day by Steel Pulse. To refresh your memory, Steel Pulse is a roots reggae musical band from the Handsworth area of Birmingham in England which has a large number of Afro-Caribbean, Indian and other Asian migrants. They were the first non-Jamaican act to win the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album, according to Wikipedia. Yea mehn, let me join Steve Nisbett, Steel Pulses drummer on the drums, as I treat you to a spot of hot roots reggae music. Feel free and blow away your bluesy feeling: Cha, cha, Cha, cha, cha, kirenkeken, Rejoice, rejoice Good tidings I bring you Hear ye a message to you my friend Voices cry invoke your angels When pressure drop it cannot conquer dread no So blow away your bluesy feeling Spirits say take the world off you shoulder One foot in the grave is a foolish step to take (dancer) Who sow in tears shall reap in joy Wise man doctrines assure your safety No more stumbling block back stabbers get down To the righteous revealed The secret of the scriptures The wicked dem portion is vanity Disciples of Lucifer In your hands lie your destination The book of true life you hold the key Mystical powers to you unfold Seek ye the half that has never been told Get behind me satan (in this ya Armageddon) Ive got chant Chant a psalm a day. I want to chant chant a psalm a day I got to chant chant a psalm a day. Moses he did chant chant Samson he did chant chant Elijah he did chant I want the whole a we fe chant chant Solomon he did chant chant His father King David chant chant John the Baptist chant chant I want the whole a we fe chant chant Chai, reggae musicians and innuendos, smh. Did you hear them? They mentioned Disciples of Luciferand said back stabbers must get down. Kikikikiki, who are the Disciples of Lucifer and back stabbers they are referring to? Keep your answers oo, I dont want trouble. Nevertheless, what fascinated me about the lyrics is the line, who sow in tears shall reap in joy and this brings me to a point I made in a recent post that Ghana is in a sowing season, and currently painfully waiting for harvest. To emphasis my point, and show evidence of hope, I wish to continue with the listing of some of the good things President Mahama is doing for this country, and this time around, I want to touch on some achievements in the security sector. Government in the last few years has intensified its effort at positioning the countrys security agencies to adequately respond to the contemporary security challenges. Government has done this through the biggest retooling of the security services in recent Ghanaian history. Below are highlights of some of the interventions government has made to equip the security services. POLICE A total of 1,424 vehicles have been procured for the Ghana Police Service by the NDC government since 2009, as against 547 bought for them between 2001 and 2008. The numerical strength of the Police Service has moved from 23,204 in 2012 to 30,635 in 2013, resulting in a current Police-Population Ratio (PPR) of 1:784 as against 1:1,100 in 2010. This has brought us closer to the United Nations benchmark of 1:500 (PPR). This has led to an increase in Police visibility and accessibility which is key in crime detection, prevention and control. Consequently crime rate has reduced significantly. For the first time in Ghanas history, a Marine Police Unit has been set up to police the countrys territorial waters. They have been equipped with six modern speed boats for this purpose. Also, construction work has resumed on the Police Hospital Expansion Project by the International Hospital Group (IHG). Additionally, logistics and equipment such as riot control gear and modern mobile clinic vans have been procured for the police. The service can now also boast of and ultra-modern forensic laboratory equipped with the appropriate facilities and vehicles for crime scene investigations among others. FIRE SERVICE The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has taken delivery of 152 new firefighting vehicles, being part of a total consignment of 227 new firefighting vehicles and equipment procured by government. This represent a vast improvement over the 95 firefighting vehicles that were procured for them between 2001 and 2008, a situation that adversely affected their ability to effectively respond to fire outbreaks in the country. GNFS will soon take delivery of another 85 Firefighting vehicles to augment their fleet. GHANA ARMED FORCES The Army, Airforce and Navy have all benefited from a comprehensive retooling programme. The Airforce has taken delivery of a fleet of modern aircraft enabling them to better perform their function of protecting the countrys airspace. The Army has also received more equipment to enhance their operations. The Navy has not been left out, they have also taken delivery of modern vessels which have boosted their capacity to defend the country by sea. GHANA IMMIGRATION SERVICE (GIS) The operations of the Border Patrol Unit (BPU) of GIS have been enhanced by the installation of Border Surveillance Systems (CCTV and WIFI Systems) at 15 out of 17 strategically selected Border Control Points throughout the country. So, you see, the young man from Bole is not doing badly, and this is the reason why I keep saying that our love for him must be unrequited. Lets help him to succeed by CHANTING A PSALM A DAY for him.
