CHAPTER 2: “I will take you to the high council you have convinced me of your sincerity.” The black wolf replied, “ I will speak on your behalf and if you tell them what you just told me I’m sure they will not object to our alliance.” Xion went and spoke with the wolves’ high council and told them of his desire. He met the wolves’ leader, a grey wolf by the name of Shein. The two had met several times on the battle field but now they talked as if they were raised together. After awhile and much debate they agreed to his proposal and with that a union was struck between the wolf and fox demons of the desert. Xion went next to the clan with the reputation as the most ruthless in all of the desert, the scorpions. He knew from his scouts there was some civil unrest within the scorpion tribe. There was a dispute between the ancient scorpion king and his daughter. It was with her that Xion planned to win the allegiance of the scorpion tribe. She was a free spirit, with no taste for war and the civil voice of her people, the scorpion princess. The scorpion people where tired of fighting with the other desert clans, but their king was a tyrant and a fierce fighter. So Xion came to the scorpion princess now with a proposal. “I will kill your father in return for his sword and allow you to rule your people.” “What do you stand to gain, Xion of the desert fox clan, from the death of my father and possession of his sword?” “Your father is the only demon in this desert that can appose me.” Xion replied. “So you seek to be a military tyrant of the desert then?” the princess replied as she stroked her tail. “No mah lady you misunderstand my intentions.” Xion replied, “I do not wish to be a leader of a grand army only the leader of a grand nation. I want to stop the feuds of the desert and bring us all together.” “Such a wonderful vision!” The Scorpion princess replied delighted by the idea. “If you kill him no one else must know.” she replied now thinking of the task at hand. “I am pregnant Xion I cannot lead a civil war you have to kill him silently.” Xion thought of his task now and felt the pleading in her eyes. She didn’t want to kill her father but feared for the safety of her unborn children. She was very reluctant to fully trust him. “Go to your father in an attempt to make peace I will take care of the rest.” There was a meeting that night in the king’s nest in the scorpion territory. As the princess came to her father in a rouse of peace a column of sand sprang up and drove it’s self through the king’s chest. The princess took power and turned her father’s sword over as she was asked in the hopes that she hadn’t made a grave mistake. Xion returned to the wolves’ den where he met with the leader of the desert wolf demons a blue haired wolf by the name of Shien. “what of the scorpions?” he asked “I have left them to form their own leadership,” Xion replied. “so that all those un loyal to our nation would be killed?” Shien asked. “those where my thoughts,” Xion replied. “what will you do with the remaining tribes?” Shien asked. “It is said that 2 where born at war, the hawk and snake clans. So to appeal to one I will destroy the other.” Xion replied. “What happened to your innocent blood speech?” shien asked as he began to doubt Xion’s sincerity and admire his cunning. “if there was another way I would do it but the snake tribe is truly merciless they want to kill all who stand in their way and cannot be trusted there for must be destroyed to complete the union of the desert clans,” Xion replied, “can‘t that be said of you as well?” Shein asked “I will avoid killing unless I absolutely have to there is always a better way.” Xion replied “how can I help” shien asked “gather the wolves go help scorpions and get ready to move to our new home I will come and meet you when I have destroyed the serpent clan and gathered the fox demons.” Xion traveled to a large hole at the end of the desert there he stood and gazed into the hole that was the entrance of the serpent’s den surrounded by turning, shifting sands. “Forgive me.” Xion said as once more he touched his sword to the desert sands and vanished. Screams could be heard from beneath the desert that night along with the breaking of bodies and pleas for mercy. That morning the sand stopped turning around the entrance to the serpent’s den and the hole was sealed shut. In this action the darkness found it’s foothold in the world. Later that afternoon Xion met the wolf and scorpion demons at the scorpion’s den and had them follow him to a north eastern part of the desert where a huge city was carved in the side of an enormous cliff, the city of the desert hawk demons. Archers prepared themselves on the tops of buildings in the cliff side while others perched on the rooftops of the ground fortress. Twenty hawk demons came to meet Xion who had separated from the large crowd for fear of accidental war and to hide the feeling of guilt that plagued him. “We come in the name of peace for all of the desert.” Xion yelled as the hawks circled and landed. “We will not make peace with the serpents ever!” A large proud hawk demon replied, “They have murdered our young and killed many a brave warrior.” “They are no more.” Xion replied “I killed them with my own hand.” The large hawk began to squawk with laughter “you expect me to believe that a meager fox demon destroyed our gravest enemies by himself?” “No.” Xion replied, “That’s why I brought you this.” Xion reached into his tunic and pulled out something that at first looked like a medium sized oddly colored box and threw it to the hawk demon. “What is this?” the hawk demon asked “take it to your leader and your high council it is the skin of the serpent king.” Xion replied, “And bring me so that I might know there reply.” “You have killed our worst enemy and ended a blood feud that stretches back through the millennia and for that we are in debt to you.” The hawk’s leader said as he unrolled the serpent king’s skin inside the grand room of the hawk‘s castle. “Then let there be peace in the desert and let this place be the fortress of the desert king so that our new nation’s leader will be safe, allow us all to share this fortress.” “Agreed” the large hawk replied, “under the condition that you are that king.” Xion went to Shien who agreed that Xion should rule. “Very well I will take my place as king of this new nation.” he replied and with that the desert nation of Arenam was born.
