Nothing, nothing ever can kill the soul. The infinite, the eternal, the infinitesimal! \23\ The unbreakable, the unburnable! The insoluble, the unreachable The all pervading, the unchangeable! The Spirit Soul! The Spirit Soul! \24\ The invisible, the inconceivable! The inaudible, the invincible! Never worn, never torn He is not new Deathless, birthless, does ever continue No eye can see, no ear hear! No nose can smell, no sense feel! Such is the spirit soul, O My dear. Grieve not for body, have no fear. \25\ Ch.2 Summary of Gita 2/7 Soul too has birth and death, if think you, Even then there’s no reason to grieve. Your behavior makes irreligion to rise, O Partha, get up now, think and realize. \26\ Like sun rises to set and sets to rise, Birth and death know, behave likewise. Death for right cause is Veer Gati (martyrdom) Fighting irreligion, Partha, is sacred duty. \27\ Soul or no soul, O Arjuna, do be not infest, From unmanifest state only all manifest. Care not for result, O My dear. \30\ 2/8 Gita My Mother Ch.2 O Ksatriya, great opportunity awaits thee. Thou art My friend and true devotee. Don’t thou forget thy Swadharma.(duty) Fighting irreligion is thy true karma. \31\ Blessed is he who gets such opportunity. For a true Ksatriya, war is divine duty. For uplifting Dharma let blood freely flow. My abode awaits thee with a divine glow. \32\ If you refrain from Swadharma here, Thou art committing a great blunder Inactive you will be branded and sinner. Fame of upright Pandavas will lower. Hence get up now and fight and win, And, O great fighter, show thy sheen. \33\ People will call you names and a coward, And tell stories that are never before heard. What can be worse than this for you? It’s better to die here, in my view. Death is better for you than infamy. Kill the Kauravas and be thou free. \34\ Ch.2 Summary of Gita 2/9 Your name and fame will run down. Thy ancestors, at you, will frown! Your leaving war will be the talk of town. Safer, easier and direct is this path, That never suffers any loss, O Partha. \40\ Only firm minds with faith in Me, Can on this path progress, fear free. But those without, belief and resolve, Are wasted and in desires do dissolve. \41\ Those with poor knowledge and ignorance, Easily fall prey to false flowery fragrance. Worldly desires for women, wealth and wine, Are enhanced by Karmas that are not divine. \42\ They who ponder over worldly things, The faithless irresolute poor earthlinks, That only think of sense gratification, Never attain Samadhi or unification. \43\ Teachings of Vedas, is truth ultimate, For one to rise to a transcendental state, And make one tolerant to dualities in life, And free him from all anxieties and strife. \44//45\ Ch.2 Summary of Gita 2/11 As a big reservoir serves easily as small wells, In chanting Hari’s name Vedic wisdom dwells. Vedas, the divine scriptures, are like an ocean, But love n devotion alone leads to liberation. \46\ Right you have only to your duty, But entitled not to fruits of activity. Hence, Arjuna, without desire you fight, Then I assure thee, salvation, thy right. Never do you run away from thy duty. No passions! fixed in Me, Sthitapradnya, pure self realized is he. \55\ Agitates not even if hell falls, Elates not if paradise enthralls, Is free from attachment anger and fear, Know him Sthitapradnya, O My dear. Calm as ocean, tranquil as Himalaya, Fearless unmoved even there’s Pralaya \56\ Unaffected by both good and evil, Never disturbed by worldly upheaval, Neither praises nor loathes none, He is Sthitapradnya, the only one. \57\ One to withdraw his senses is able, As does tortoise his limbs in the shell, And engages them in My service only, Know him Sthitapradnya, the holy \58\ 2/14 Gita My Mother Ch. 2 Taming desires is not so easy, They are very tasty and spicy. But, one in true love of My beauty, Succumbs not to them, the nasty. \59\ Agile like cheetah, turbulent like wind, Desires harass even the stable mind. \60\ One who serves Lord with all his senses Easily wins over them and their offences. \61\ While pondering over subjects, One gets attached to sense objects. Thru attachment lust develops, Due to lust anger envelops. \62\ Anger deludes the person, Bewildering the memory, O son. Then the intelligence is lost, And one falls down very fast. \63\ One who controls one’s senses ably, Performs well, good and bad equally, Surrenders the senses unto Me totally, Is fit to obtain divine mercy really. \64\ Ch.2 Summary of Gita 2/15 A person blessed with My mercy, From material miseries is free. Established always in My wisdom, Enjoys happiness, bliss and freedom. \65\ One unconnected with Me, He is never steady and free. His mind and senses run hay-wire, Distract him with passion and desire. How can he be happy really And progress in life easily? \66\ As a boat is swept away by strong wind, A strong sense can astray strong mind. \67\ Thus, one who wins over his senses, By employing them in My services, Is fit for Mukti, the liberation, Is a true Yogi without emotion! \68\ When people are asleep, Yogi is awake When they are awake, he does meditate. Day or night Yogi is a winner. Self realized soul never a sinner! \69\ 2/16 Gita My Mother Ch. 2 Rivers entering ocean disturb not his calm. Desires entering Yogi perturb not his realm. \70\ Those who realize self and Me, And are totally from desires free, View with equanimity all dualities, Are ever happy and blissful entities. \71\ Arjuna, be Yogi and lead godly life, Free from fear, anger and strife. Surrender all thy actions unto Me, And from all reactions be thou free. When you become one with Me, From death and birth be thou free. \72\ OM OM OM Conclusion Out of affection and love for near ones, Arjuna, with weak mind, refused to fight the war. Krishna tried to bring him to senses by using harsh words. Shunning the weakness of mind, He told him to punish the wicked Kauravas. He recollected to him the sinful acts committed by them. The Lord explained to him, how one’s own duty was more important than kith and kin. Ch.2 Summary of Gita 2/17 But due to attachment and affection, his brain was not cooperating with him. He was not even able to understand that, in the war, whether killing or getting killed was better for them. He was groping in the deep darkness of ignorance. Seeing his dual mental state, Krishna gave him divine advice. Birth, life, death, rebirth, body, soul, covered soul, supreme soul, one’s duty and their mutual relations, such superior knowledge was imparted to him by Him. Higher theories of life and ways and means to fulfill them were also shown by Him Lord told to Arjuna, “O, Arjuna, you are not this body of bones, flesh, and blood that is impure, mortal, and destructible. You are immortal, pure soul residing in this body, the Master of this body. This body is your vehicle, the means to get penance, but not an end. This body changes every moment and ever travels towards death. It is born, attains childhood, adolescence, youth, old age and dies. But the soul is neither born, nor becomes old, nor is destroyed, nor destroys anyone. He is ever young, immortal, undivided, and indestructible; Body can be cut into pieces with weapon. Fire can burn it. But the soul can not be killed with arms, be burnt with fire, be wetted with water, be dried with wind.’’ “Such a strong, miraculous and wonderful soul you are, that is part and parcel of Me, the supreme soul. It’s improper to lament for this body. The time wheel of life and death is there from all eternity. Where there is birth there is death. But death is not an end, it’s the beginning of a new life. I, you, and all these, existed in the past, and will ever continue to exist in future also. Hence abandon the affection and grief for perishable bodies and get ready for the war. Arjuna, what ideals you will set for coming generations? Therefore get up, do thy duty, fight the war.” This kind of highest knowledge Bhagavan Krishna imparted to Arjuna. Who other than Lord Himself can bestow such universal knowledge with authority? Creator of cosmos alone can tell such yoga on the battlefield, can proclaim such great life philosophies there. Then Krisnha told Arjuna, karmayoga, by which karma will not adhere to him. Which means neither sin nor merit will stick to him. A way of action or duty, without desiring any fruit there off! Lord Madhududan, killer of demon Madhu, told Arjuna, ‘’ O, Arjuna, you are only entitled to your duty, but not to its fruits. Victory or defeat, loss or gain, killing or being killed are not in your hands. They are beyond your control. Hence, without desiring for any fruit, get up and fight. Without caring for success or failure, sin or merit, insult or dignity, happiness or sorrow, fight the battle. I am with you. Don’t worry. You are master of your actions just for cause sake. Even if you don’t fight this war, end of these wicked Ch.2 Summary of Gita 2/19 Kauravas is certain. You just devote your duty to Me. Then you will be free from all bondages of your actions. Sin or merit will not affect you. Hence Arjuna, with firm mind, get up now and fight the war.” Krishna told very novel and new way of performing duty without desire of fruit and ego. Calm as ocean, tranquil as Himalaya, Fearless unmoved even there’s Pralaya \56\ Unaffected by both good and evil, Never disturbed by worldly upheaval, Neither praises nor loathes none, He is Sthitapradnya, the only one. \57\ One to withdraw his senses is able, As does tortoise his limbs in the shell, And engages them in My service only, Know him Sthitapradnya, the holy \58\ 2/14 Gita My Mother Ch. 2 Taming desires is not so easy, They are very tasty and spicy. But, one in true love of My beauty, Succumbs not to them, the nasty. \59\ Agile like cheetah, turbulent like wind, Desires harass even the stable mind. \60\ One who serves Lord with all his senses Easily wins over them and their offences. \61\ While pondering over subjects, One gets attached to sense objects. Thru attachment lust develops, Due to lust anger envelops. \62\ Anger deludes the person, Bewildering the memory, O son. Then the intelligence is lost, And one falls down very fast. \63\ One who controls one’s senses ably, Performs well, good and bad equally, Surrenders the senses unto Me totally, Is fit to obtain divine mercy really. \64\ Ch.2 Summary of Gita 2/15 A person blessed with My mercy, From material miseries is free. Established always in My wisdom, Enjoys happiness, bliss and freedom. \65\ One unconnected with Me, He is never steady and free. His mind and senses run hay-wire, Distract him with passion and desire. How can he be happy really And progress in life easily? \66\ As a boat is swept away by strong wind, A strong sense can astray strong mind. \67\ Thus, one who wins over his senses, By employing them in My services, Is fit for Mukti, the liberation, Is a true Yogi without emotion! \68\ When people are asleep, Yogi is awake When they are awake, he does meditate. Day or night Yogi is a winner. Self realized soul never a sinner! \69\ 2/16 Gita My Mother Ch. 2 Rivers entering ocean disturb not his calm. Desires entering Yogi perturb not his realm. \70\ Those who realize self and Me, And are totally from desires free, View with equanimity all dualities, Are ever happy and blissful entities. \71\ Arjuna, be Yogi and lead godly life, Free from fear, anger and strife. Surrender all thy actions unto Me, And from all reactions be thou free. When you become one with Me, From death and birth be thou free. \72\ OM OM OM Conclusion Out of affection and love for near ones, Arjuna, with weak mind, refused to fight the war. Krishna tried to bring him to senses by using harsh words. Shunning the weakness of mind, He told him to punish the wicked Kauravas. He recollected to him the sinful acts committed by them. The Lord explained to him, how one’s own duty was more important than kith and kin. Ch.2 Summary of Gita 2/17 But due to attachment and affection, his brain was not cooperating with him. He was not even able to understand that, in the war, whether killing or getting killed was better for them. He was groping in the deep darkness of ignorance. Seeing his dual mental state, Krishna gave him divine advice. Birth, life, death, rebirth, body, soul, covered soul, supreme soul, one’s duty and their mutual relations, such superior knowledge was imparted to him by Him. Higher theories of life and ways and means to fulfill them were also shown by Him Lord told to Arjuna, “O, Arjuna, you are not this body of bones, flesh, and blood that is impure, mortal, and destructible. You are immortal, pure soul residing in this body, the Master of this body. This body is your vehicle, the means to get penance, but not an end. This body changes every moment and ever travels towards death. It is born, attains childhood, adolescence, youth, old age and dies. But the soul is neither born, nor becomes old, nor is destroyed, nor destroys anyone. He is ever young, immortal, undivided, and indestructible; Body can be cut into pieces with weapon. Fire can burn it. But the soul can not be killed with arms, be burnt with fire, be wetted with water, be dried with wind.’’ “Such a strong, miraculous and wonderful soul you are, that is part and parcel of Me, the supreme soul. It’s improper to lament for this body. The time wheel of life and death is there from all eternity. Where there is birth there is death. But death is not an end, it’s the beginning of a new life. Just as a man gives up the old 2/18 Gita My Mother Ch. 2 clothes, so does the soul old body and takes up the new one. I, you, and all these, existed in the past, and will ever continue to exist in future also. Hence abandon the affection and grief for perishable bodies and get ready for the war. If you run away from this religious war, you and your family will be disgraced. Your enemies as well as friends will despise you, abuse you. They will call you a coward, which is horrible than death. Arjuna, what ideals you will set for coming generations? Therefore get up, do thy duty, fight the war.” This kind of highest knowledge Bhagavan Krishna imparted to Arjuna. Who other than Lord Himself can bestow such universal knowledge with authority? Creator of cosmos alone can tell such yoga on the battlefield, can proclaim such great life philosophies there. Then Krisnha told Arjuna, karmayoga, by which karma will not adhere to him. Which means neither sin nor merit will stick to him. A way of action or duty, without desiring any fruit there off! Lord Madhududan, killer of demon Madhu, told Arjuna, ‘’ O, Arjuna, you are only entitled to your duty, but not to its fruits. Victory or defeat, loss or gain, killing or being killed are not in your hands. They are beyond your control. Hence, without desiring for any fruit, get up and fight. Without caring for success or failure, sin or merit, insult or dignity, happiness or sorrow, fight the battle. I am with you. Don’t worry. You are master of your actions just for cause sake. Even if you don’t fight this war, end of these wicked Ch.2 Summary of Gita 2/19 Kauravas is certain. You just devote your duty to Me. Then you will be free from all bondages of your actions. Sin or merit will not affect you. Hence Arjuna, with firm mind, get up now and fight the war.” Krishna told very novel and new way of performing duty without desire of fruit and ego. Lord Krishna told this secret formula of karmayoga to the world, of becoming free from bondages. Krishna also explained in great details, as how, one that goes on this path untiringly, gets the highest divine fruit and reaches the highest state of divine consciousness and excellence, The Sthitapradnya. --------------
