CHHATTISGARH STARTS GIVING MOTHERHOOD ALLOWANCE TO MNREGA WOMEN WORKERS! Chhattisgarh has started giving maternity leave along with one-month motherhood allowa...nce to pregnant women working under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA). Chhattisgarh is the first state in the country that has made such peoples’ welfare scheme. According to an official press statement issued here on Friday, water resources minister Ramvichar Netam inaugurated the scheme at Durg district headquarters, in accordance to the declaration made by chief minister Dr Raman Singh at the last session of the Assembly. Minister Netam declared the implementation of the scheme across the state by symbolically presenting cheques worth Rs 4,380 each to five women workers of Durg development block. He said, under the motherhood benefit scheme, 30 days wages would be given to six to nine month pregnant women working under MNREGA through the Janpad Panchayat concerned. This benefit would be given to her one month after delivery also, he added. For getting the benefit, name of the woman concerned should be in the job card of registered families of MNREGA. Besides, it will be mandatory that the woman concerned should have worked in MNREGA at least 15 days in a year. The water resources minister said that the state government, under the leadership of chief minister Dr Raman Singh, has decided to give 50-days additional work to the labourers working under MNREGA. According to the decision, now MNREGA workers will get 150 days job in a year in Chhattisgarh, whereas, in this scheme of the Central government, provision of only 100 days job has been made. Under the scheme, the 50 additional days’ wages would be given by Chhattisgarh government from its own fund. Scheduled Caste Development Authority vice-chairman Domanlal Korsewada, MLA Bhajan Singh Nirankari, Mayor, Durg Municipal Corporation Dr Shivkumar Tomar, collector Brijesh Chandra Mishra, district panchayat CEO Aizaz Fakir Bhai Tamboli and other officers and people’s representatives were present on the occasion.
